With the aim of being an environmentally friendly hotel, we have renovated the house with high levels of insulation to avoid heat loss by using natural materials from sustainable sources wherever possible. We only use untreated natural spring water throughout the hotel and ask our guests to conserve their water and electricity use. As well as this, we line-dry all unchanged towels and provide only a mid-week, rather than daily change, of towels and bed linen - this helps us reduce our energy use, water consumption and pollution.
We try our best to source local produce and seasonal ingredients - growing many of our vegetables in our own organic plot. We buy our bread from local farmers and make our own tasty preserves. In guest rooms, we provide only Fairtrade tea and coffee. We make every effort to compost any waste generated in the hotel kitchen or guest rooms but try our very best to avoid food waste by asking guests to select their menu choices beforehand.
The majority of hotel guests choose to be picked up by our minibus on arrival day and most days, we will walk directly from the hotel to our walking routes. For routes that can’t be easily reached on foot (no more than two times a week), we travel together using the one minibus to keep our fuel emissions to a minimum.
With walking being the main activity for most days, we have a relatively low impact on the local environment. We always keep to marked trails and ensure no sign is left of us passing through. On most walking routes, we visit local farms, mountain huts and artisans, where guests often sample and buy local products, helping the local economy.
These things all help us provide eco-friendly tourism in Slovenia.
